Ypparguirre-Marquat Residence

This is the private residence of the Yparraguirre family. Mr. Frank M. Yparraguirre was born in San Francisco in 1903 and lived there until moving to the Carson Valley in 1924. His family was the namesake for the Yparraguirre Hotel in San Francisco. The hotel was known and visited by Basque travelers from Europe and the western United States. Mr. Yparraguirre attended school here in Carson Valley. He later met and married Alma H. Marquat and they operated the Perry's Dry Goods store in Gardnerville for more than forty years. Mr. Yparraguirre served as a Town Board member when Town government was still operated by the Volunteer Fire Department Board.
